Sport Relief

A massive congratulations and thanks to the Sport Relief heroes. They waited for hours in the freezing cold, they battled horizontal rain, and they did us proud. The biggest team there on the day, and the most valiant! David Clapton says...

Oxford School of Martial Arts is very proud of all those who took part in the Sport Relief mile on Sunday. There was true black belt spirit shown by everyone to fight through the floods, rain, wind, cold and the delays. From the youngest to the oldest, great self discipline and patience was shown whilst the organisers had to completely change  their plans due to the weather. Once on the track determination and  indomitable spirit enabled the whole team to overcome the elements and  get around the track.

All those who took part can rightly feel very proud of their efforts for this worthwhile cause. Please can you forward your sponsorship monies directly to Sport Relief?

If you have any photos please send them in or post them direct to the facebook group.”

Competition Squad

OSMA TT took its biggest squad yet out to Gloucester this weekend, and had a very positive day. Now the team are getting more familiar with the circuit and more confident - building great team spirit and learning to have fun and glean experience. Some came away with medals - Kieron Sims took gold in his kata section, Chi Bikishoni won bronze for fighting, and Sensei Claire, as ever, led from the front with a gold in fighting and a silver in kata. The team voted this their best day yet and are really beginning to enjoy playing the game and supporting each other.

All looking forward to the next one...and if you want to try out a competition class then do let us know!

Marathon Man

Meanwhile, as mini karateka fought the tears and the rain to stagger a Sport Relief Mile, and OTT toughed it out on the mats...Gavin Allinson, (OSMA student and parent) took on the hardest marathon in the UK, a vertical hill circuit...have a look at the video on facebook to get some idea of the conditions. Lots of challenges were faced on Sunday by OSMA members - we salute Gavin (respect!) and we salute Max Baro Wellstood, who in his own way (aged 2!) had an equally tough day :-)

Happy Easter to all!

No classes will run at Polstead Rd (or Botley) on Friday 21st.

Sport Relief:

David Clapton says -Thank you to everyone who has entered the Sport Relief mile. There will be 43 of us taking part. The run is this Sunday (16th March). Meet at 10am at Tilsey Park, Abingdon. If anyone needs directions please ask.The car park may get quite busy so you might want to turn up a bit earlier. We will all meet together before the run and get some photos etc.

If you have OSMA or Yu-Bu-Kai t-shirts please can you wear them? It will be great to get some publicity for our club.

If you haven't signed up yet but still want to join us, please register on the Sport Relief web-site and come and join us on the day."We can either send it out by e-mail or just announce it at every class. I want everyone to get the message (day, time & location). I have already had some people on the list asking me what day it is!

March 3rd

Examination Day.

Congratulations to all who graded yesterday. From the reluctant reds to the brilliant browns it was a great celebration of disciplined achievement. Many thanks for all your positive emails and comments, especially the mothers who enjoyed receiving their Mother's Day roses from Sensei Jake and Sempai David. Please post any photos on the facebook group!

New Classes For Beginners.

Often, parents begin their training having been inspired by watching an examination day. No better time than now, as Sensei Jake kicks off his 10 week course which will give you all the basics for supporting your kids training, or the best possible start for your own journey to Black Belt. As with all OSMA programmes, your dedicated attendance is essential - so if you can make Wednesdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 6pm for the next 10 weeks, give us a call to book in on 01865370339.

Sport Relief Mile 16th March.

This event is being led by David Clapton (many of you saw him grading for his final brown belt yesterday, and would definitely run a mile if you saw him again!) All entries must be in by Friday, please bring entry fee of £2 per child and £5 per adult in a CLEARLY MARKED ENVELOPE (your names, ages and "Sport Relief") and collect your sponsorship form in the dojo.

Have a good week!

Competition News

Great results from the South West Karate Open yesterday, the OSMA TT squad took their plan for world domination to the next level and once again did us proud. Lilit Ghazaryan came away with her first medal for sparring and Sensei Claire led her team by example - winning a bronze medal in the kata, and gold for sparring with a trophy and £200 in prizes! Well done to all who participated.

Sobell House Appeal

Many thanks for all your donations to Sobell House at the examination day earlier this month. We raised £80 for the Ken Cox memorial fund, which now stands at over £400 in total. An excellent cause, and Rob's mother would like to pass on her personal appreciation for all the donations and kind words of support.

BBC Radio Oxford

Please tune in to Radio Oxford this Wednesday as Sensei Mary will be co-hosting the Bill Heine Show from 4pm-7pm. Lets hope she manages not to get too carried away...

Polstead Rd Shutdown

A further reminder that due to unavailability of the hall, there will be no Polstead Rd classes on 9th November. You are welcome to bring your children to train in Botley instead.

Bootcamp

There will be another Bootcamp on 2nd Dec 2pm-4pm  - 2 hours solidly focused on drilling syllabus work. Not for slackers or for the faint hearted! A great way to accelerate towards your next examination. This time, the session is only open to blue, green, orange, and yellow/orange belts. Book early to avoid disappointment, tickets will be available in classes soon.

And finally a treat for you...

Team Taurus is the demonstration squad of OSMA.  The team is to perform its first 'taster showcase' this Christmas.  Sorry, all tickets are already accounted for and they haven't even been printed yet!

There are 5 places currently open on the squad.  Only serious budding stars need apply.  We train for two hours on a Monday and Saturday (sometimes more) and attendance must be exemplary.  There is also a degree of home practice.

If you want to try out for a place, email us back at the office and we will send you a letter detailing the nature of the training and the commitment involved.  With just over 300 members and only 5 places up for grabs we expect demand to be fierce.  If you are serious you will need to act quickly.

Photos and video clips will be available through our facebook group - please join up if you haven't already.

Sayonara!
